10 Biggest News Stories of the Week: Toyota Sequoia, Ford Expedition Reach Higher Than Highlander

10 Biggest News Stories of the Week: Toyota Sequoia, Ford Expedition Reach Higher Than Highlander Full-size, truck-based SUVs are somewhat of a dinosaur since they fell out of fashion after the heyday of the ’90s, but 14 years between redesigns they looked positively prehistoric. However, as the pickup truck it’s based on has been redesigned for 2021, Toyota’s large SUV named after Big Tree is back for 2023, overhauled and ready to compete in the smaller, more specialized SUV segment. Naturally, we wanted to see how the all-new Sequoia stacks up against the behemoth of the fraternity that has kept up with the times, namely.

In one of the most popular articles on Cars.com last week, reviewer Aaron Bragman put the Sequoia and Expedition head-to-head to compare the SUV’s exterior design, performance, cabin appointments, technical fit and price. Both have solid performance from twin-turbocharged V-6 engines as well as comfortable ride and handling, but there were clearer winners in fuel mileage and passenger accommodations, not to mention price. For the full details of Bragman’s comparison of the Sequoia 2023 and 2022 Expedition, follow the link below to article #2 on this week’s countdown — and for more of the Sequoia scoop, head over to point #6, where you’ll find Bragman’s comprehensive review of the redesigned Toyota SUV.

In other Toyota SUV news, the 2023 Highlander is set to hit dealerships later in October with notable powertrain, technology and pricing updates. The big news is that the V-6 option is scrapped, as all non-hybrid Highlanders will now be powered by the 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which the automaker has promised similar capabilities. Among the technology upgrades is the standard availability of two 12.3-inch screens for lofts. Meanwhile, price increases for a new model year range from about $500 to $2,000 for gas models and from $650 to $1,900 for hybrid versions.
