2023 Dodge Hornet Up Close Video: Buzzing With Potential Affordable compact SUVs usually aren’t “fun,” but Dodge is striving to prove otherwise with the 2023 Hornet compact SUV. We checked out the Hornet in August as part of Dodge Speed Week, and we’re now getting a closer look at the 2022 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Hornet borrows heavily from new compact SUVs (Alfa Romeo and Dodge under the Stylantis umbrella), but even that might not do justice to how much Hornet and Tonale have in common; Both will be built at the same factory in Italy. That’s not necessarily a bad thing considering how much promise Tonale showed when he was in April at the 2022 New York Auto Show.

Like the Tonale, Hornet will offer a choice of a gas-only 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder hybrid. In the gas-only GT, the four turbos will produce 265 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which is Not The high performance version. That distinction belongs to the Hornet R/T Hybrid’s 285 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, as well as the available PowerShot feature that can boost power by an additional 25 horsepower for 15 seconds. Both versions of the Hornet come with a range of high-performance equipment, with even more optional equipment.

Since we haven’t driven it, we can’t yet say if Hornet – or Tonale, for that matter – will deliver on its performance promise, but what we’ve seen from both have so far been encouraging. For more on what we think of the 2023 Dodge Hornet, watch the video below.
