2023 Honda CR-V: Prices on the Rise, Hybrid MPG on the Slide The Honda CR-V has long been one of automakers’ best-selling vehicles and the most popular compact SUV in US sales. The automaker hopes that the significant update of 2023 will continue this trend. When the new CR-V goes on sale later this month, it will start at $32,355 (all prices include destination) for the base front-wheel-drive EX model — $1,800 more than the previous similarly equipped model. Hybrid models start at $33,695, similar to the outgoing base Hybrid’s price of $33,255.

The new CR-V is larger for 2023, with an overall length of 2.7 inches which translates into more cargo space and passenger room. It also sees an updated hybrid powertrain and a revised multimedia system.

Powertrains and MPG

Honda has streamlined its CR-V trim levels for 2023—there are now only four. The EX and EX-L models use a relayed 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower and pair with a continuously variable automatic transmission that Honda says has been reset. With FWD, the engine has an estimated EPA rating of 28/34/30 mpg city/highway/combined. With available all-wheel drive, it’s rated at 27/32/29 mpg. These numbers are the same as the ratings of the outgoing model.

The top-of-the-line Sport and Sportback models use Honda’s all-new Hybrid system that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a pair of tandem electric motors, one of which is a new, larger all-wheel drive. This updated hybrid system results in a combined gas and electric rating of 204 horsepower, similar to the outgoing hybrid.

All-wheel drive (AWD) is available on Sport models and standard on Sport Touring models. With FWD, the hybrid system has an EPA rating of 43/36/40 mpg; AWD drops those numbers to 40/34/37 mpg. For 2022, the hybrid was intended for all-wheel drive only, and was at 40/35/38 mpg, which means the fuel economy for the new hybrid system is lowest A little about last year.
