The current Chevrolet Trax has already fallen towards the top of the list, but the redesigned 2024 Trax will arrive carrying an equal car minimum Initial price. The compact SUV promises more interior space, improved technical and safety features, and more trims to choose from. While the redesign seems to boost the car’s value for budget-conscious shoppers, there are a few caveats: A new engine under the hood brings a significant reduction in power, and all-wheel drive is no longer optional.

The 2024 Trax is now 4 inches lower, 2 inches wider and extending its wheelbase 6 inches over the outgoing model. In addition to its new proportions, the compact SUV also borrows some exterior cues from the mid-size, according to Chevy, in a facelift with a redesigned grille, a more patterned hood, slimmer LED headlights and new LED running lights.

The current LS and LT SUV models will be joined by three new variants: 1RS, 2RS and Activ. Each of the five Trax rims has distinct exterior elements: The LS gets 17-inch steel wheels; The LT rides on 17-inch wheels made of machined aluminum; RS Sport adds an RS-specific grille and grille, as well as 18-inch alloy wheels for the 1RS and 19-inch wheels for the 2RS; The range-topping Activ gets a monochromatic look with titanium chrome and a more aggressive rear skid plate that rides on black 18-inch wheels.

Chevy says the Trax’s 11-inch increase in length results in more room for passengers and their gear. The brand estimates an increase of 3 inches in rear legroom and 12% more cargo capacity than the previous model’s 48.4 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded (note that automakers’ cargo measurements differ from). Chevrolet says the Trax now also offers a more open and airy interior thanks to a redesigned center console and lower instrument panel for improved visibility.

The accents and features of the SUV in the interior are also based on the trim; The LT got black seats with gray accents; The 2RS gets red accents and a flat-bottom steering wheel; And Activ gets yellow accents in the interior. Heated seats, mirrors, and remote start are available for the base LS, while higher trims come standard with these features as well as a heated steering wheel. Standard automatic climate control, push-button start, and added rear-seat USB ports come standard on the LT, 2RS and Activ.

less under the hood

The 2024 Trax is powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine that shares the larger, related engine. The new engine replaces the previous 1.4-liter model with 155 horsepower, bringing the power down to 137 horsepower — but while the horsepower is significantly reduced, Chevrolet says the SUV’s longer wheelbase and wider track help improve performance by More balanced steering and control. The three-cylinder is mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission and returns unchanged, but Chevy is giving up the all-wheel drive option for a restyle, leaving front-wheel drive as standard on all models.

The brand didn’t immediately provide fuel economy estimates for the new Trax, but shoppers will likely see an improvement. The outgoing model gets 24/32/27 mpg city/highway/combined max, while those that share the new Trax engine get 29/33/31 mpg.

Advanced technology and safety

The updated 2024 Trax technology evolves along with the proportions of the SUV. An 8-inch center touchscreen replaces the previous model’s 7-inch display as standard on the base LS and 1RS, while a new, larger 11-inch screen is standard for higher trims. The 2024 Trax gains standard connectivity, and wireless charging is available on LT models and higher tires.
