Given how intertwined GMC and Chevrolet internal combustion-engine pickup trucks are, it should come as no surprise that after the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV debuted in January, GMC will add the Sierra EV to its 2024 lineup. The GMC 2024 Luxury Vehicle The GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will be the first model available at launch, with the AT4 Off-Road and Prevalent Elevation to follow as the 2025 models.

GMC, like Chevrolet, keeps a lot of the details about the Sierra EV close to its jacket. We don’t yet have numbers like ratings, capacity (or capacities) for the Ultium battery, or tare weight. However, what we do know indicates that the Sierra EV, like its internal combustion counterpart, will be very similar to the Silverado EV.

The Sierra EV is expected to have a maximum range of 400 miles, according to GMC, although owners aren’t likely to reach that far if they use Max Power mode. That unlocks the Sierra’s maximum power ratings of 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque, which the brand estimates will propel the big truck from 0-60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. (GMC has not provided horsepower or torque figures for other models or when Max Power mode is not in use.)Other nifty features of this futuristic electric pickup include 2-inch adaptive air suspension for height adjustment, GM’s available even when towing (up to 9,500 pounds of towing capacity in the Sierra EV), adjustable regenerative brakes and single-pedal driving.

Like the theory of carcinogenesis – where crustaceans will eventually evolve into a crab-like shape – the Sierra EV is moving toward that nasty reality by adding four-wheel steering with GMC’s CrabWalk feature. It allows the vehicle to move diagonally at low speeds to improve maneuverability.

GMC’s full charge estimates aren’t made clear, but the brand says the Sierra EV can add nearly 100 miles of range in 10 minutes with a maximum of 350—from an 800-volt charger. The electric truck can also send up to 10.2 kW of juice from the battery to a variety of devices connected via the Power Station Pro feature.

The Sierra EV will look very familiar to those who’ve seen a Silverado EV, with its “ultra-modern” Avalanche body design, and giant 24-inch wheels on the Denali Version 1. There’s a front trunk with a drain plug and electric lift lid for easy access, and like the Silverado EV, the Sierra EV It has an adjustable bed with an extension in the cabin. The cargo box is less than 6 feet long, extending to just over 9 feet with the middle of the door lowered to allow access to the interior. With the center door lowered and the MultiPro tailgate lowered to the loading off position, the bed extends to a maximum of 10 feet 10 inches.

Interior Luxe Denali

While luxury includes plenty of technology, GMC doesn’t skimp on the materials inside the Denali Edition 1, with padded seats and open-pore wood trim. The panoramic glass roof is intended to make the cabin more open, and GMC says it has a UV and infrared reflective coating, which prevents passengers from baking in the cabin.

Technically speaking, the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 features a 16.8-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, an 11-inch configurable digital instrument panel, and a 14-inch color display. GMC also says the Sierra EV will have up to 14 available camera views.

Pricing and release date

GMC hasn’t shared full pricing information yet, but the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will have a starting price of $107,000 before destination or any tax credits. Reservations for the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Version 1 are now open, with GMC anticipating deliveries to begin in early 2024.
