2024 Polestar 3 SUV Debuts With 300-Mile Range, Up to 517 HP Volvo’s first all-electric Polestar SUV has been revealed and promises more range, space and power than its predecessor. According to the brand’s time naming agreements, the Polestar 3 is expected to join the 2024 Polestar 2 with the arrival of late 2023 (production of the performance coupe ended in 2021). The new SUV will make its way into an increasingly competitive group of electric competitors with the goal of closing the gap in best sales.

The Polestar 3 is much larger than the 2. It is 11.6 inches in length, approximately 6 inches in height and has a 9.8 inch longer wheelbase. Compared to its Tesla competitors, all three fall between the Model Y and the larger and more expensive Model X with a wheelbase closer to the latter. The 3 has a wide stance with a front spoiler integrated into the hood, a spoiler in the rear spoiler and rear aerodynamic blades. LED lighting is used in the headlights and the entire backlight strip. The SUV rides on 21-inch alloy wheels, but shoppers can upgrade to 22-inch black alloy wheels via the optional Performance Package. A panoramic glass roof is standard on all variants.

The 3-passenger interior fits up to five passengers and gets a range of sustainable materials, including repurposed aluminum trim and imitation leather and wool upholstery options. In addition to standard features like heated seats and a 360-degree camera system, the SUV will also come with a standard Plus package for 2024 that adds a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, easy-close doors, an advanced cabin filtering system, heated steering wheel and seats background.

Powertrain, performance and 0-60 MPH

Unlike the 2, which can be had with a single-motor front-wheel drive or two-wheel drive configuration, the 3 will exclusively come with a dual-motor setup at launch; Polestar did not immediately say whether a single engine option would be offered in the future. The base engine produces 489 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque; Adding the available Performance Package increases horsepower to 517 and torque to 671 lb-ft.

The SUV gets an estimated 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds, which drops to 4.6 seconds with the Performance Package upgrade. Although the 2 engine has less power (476 hp with the Performance Package), the sedan sprints from 0-60 to 4.2 seconds. 3 acceleration from a stop is a competitor to the long-range Model Y; However, the Y Performance and fellow Ford Mustang Mach-E GT both achieve 0-60 times of 3.5 seconds. The Polestar 3 has a top speed of 130 mph, and a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

Standard on all Polestar 3 models, the two-chamber air suspension system aims to balance comfort and driving dynamics. The Performance Package adds a more sporty version of the air suspension.

The 3’s 111-batteries produce up to 300 miles of rated range, while the Performance Package reduces that range to 270 miles–the latter matching the 270-mile maximum with an FWD. Among the competitors, the Y leads 330 miles for its long-range variant, with the BMW iX in the back, the Ford Mustang Mach-E in and the Audi E-Tron only.

The automaker estimates the 3 will charge from zero to full in 11 hours with 48 amps; The battery will take from 10-80% in 30 minutes with a general charger thanks to its 240 kW capacity.

The SUV gets a standard 14.5-inch center touchscreen on the tablet model and a 9-inch digital gauge cluster. Like the Polestar 2 and some Volvo models, the Model 3 will use Android Automotive’s operating system with Google built in (to be used to recharge the all-electric Volvo XC40). Four USB-C ports split between rows one and two, and a 12V power port can be found in the rear charging area. The SUV will also receive over-the-air updates to improve real-time software and introduce new features.

Safety comes. A series of cameras, radar units and sensors are used for driver assistance technologies in a vehicle; Standard features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. The Pilot Pack, which comes standard for 2024, adds semi-autonomous Pilot Assist that helps with acceleration, braking and steering at speeds up to 80 mph. The package also adds park assist and a head-up display. In addition, the Polestar 3 will be one of the first cars to showcase the new Volvo that aims to reduce hot-car fatalities.
