2016-22 Sorentos, 2021-23 Sorento Hybrid, 2022-23 Sorento PHEVs and 2017-22 Sportage are affected by the latest towing, which includes SUVs originally equipped with a tow belt or purchased through a Kia dealer. Debris and moisture build up on the printed circuit board of the hitch unit may cause an electrical short, which could result in a fire, increasing the risk of injury.

The treatment is currently in development, but for now, owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the repair is complete. Kia will begin notifying owners on November 14, but those with further questions can call the automaker at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s recall number is SC249) or visit to check out and learn more.
