Guardians of minors and their guardians must present the vaccination card or the blue booklet at the vaccination centers.
Puriscal resident 4-year-old Fiorella Vindas was the first girl in the country to be vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday morning.
She is part of the group of children aged over 6 months and under 5 years who can be immunized against this disease from noon on Monday.
The country currently has 300,000 doses for children. The vaccination schedule for this age group is three doses, in this case the second dose is applied 3 weeks after the first and 8 weeks after the second dose.
This vaccine is applied to children 6 months to less than 2 years old in the thigh and children over 2 years old and less than 5 years old in the arm.
Guardians of minors and their guardians must present the vaccination card or the blue booklet at the vaccination centers. If the child has taken the first dose abroad, he can complete the regimen in the country.
Boys and girls are also more likely to become seriously ill and suffer short- and long-term consequences of COVID-19. This vaccine allows them to be protected and prevents them from hospitalization and even death from this disease,” noted the Minister of Health, Jocelyn Chacon.
“We should all feel proud to live in a country with access to this vaccine, and Costa Rica is a leader in Latin America in COVID-19 vaccination for children under five,” he added.
On her part, CCSS CEO, Marta Esquivel, stressed that the institution’s vaccination teams are now ready to vaccinate this category of children.

“It is in our greatest interest that we are all protected. Starting this afternoon, the vaccine is available in the health districts with the highest concentrations of people across the country. This Tuesday, October 4, it will be available in the most remote areas, as well as vaccinations for children over 5 years old, and teens. And adults are still available across the country,” Esquivel explained.
The beginning of the vaccination day occurred, called “All protected!” , in Mora, Michal Health District. The activity was attended by authorities from the health sector, local representatives, the Pan American Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
