You should also have advanced or superior ratings for Forward Collision Prevention System in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian ratings. A car’s headlights determine whether or not it earns a Plus badge: Top Safety Picks must have at least a good or acceptable headlight system, while a Top Safety Pick Plus requires good or acceptable headlights for all trims.

Both the Pathfinder and the QX60 earn superior ratings for their anti-collision systems: Nissan’s lineup offers standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Other standard features include rear automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning with rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and high beam assist. Meanwhile, blind spot intervention, lane departure steering assist, 360-degree camera system and traffic sign recognition are available.

Also available is ProPilot Assist, a practical spoiler that adds lane-centered steering and adaptive cruise control to a stop. A more advanced system that adjusts speed based on curves and traffic signs is offered on higher trims.

Who are the competitors who won the award?

Among Pathfinder’s competitors, the 2022 Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade, Subaru Ascent and Toyota Highlander won Top Safety Pick Plus awards, while the Kia Telluride was named the Top Safety Pick. Among the QX60’s luxury competitors, the 2022 Acura MDX was the top safety pick, while the Lexus RX and Lincoln Aviator were the top safety picks.
